Parc Meridian at Eisenhower Station
Alexandria, VA
Scope
Located in the Eisenhower Corridor of Alexandria with quick access to the Capital Beltway and a metro station, Parc Meridian at Eisenhower Station is a progressive fusion of urban development and urban ecology. The existing site was relatively flat, with the exception of a narrow gulley with a neglected stream and overgrown invasive plants. The LA firm provided services from rezoning through construction administration.
The design of Parc Meridian, which achieved LEED Silver®, is a collaboration between two private property owners and the City. It includes a four-season rooftop terrace offering beautiful views of the area and a street level patio for social gatherings. The lobby plaza on Port Street was designed to have a fully-pedestrian accessible plaza that is shared with vehicles. The previous informal public cut-through to the Metro station is reinterpreted with a crushed stone path flanked with signage about the pond. The public can also venture down to the pond on a parallel boardwalk.
This stream was transformed into a storm water pond, providing treatment for 67.1 acres of the Hoof’s Run watershed, extending its impact far beyond the site’s 2.9 acres.
